The Explorer Hotel is the largest hotel in Yellowknife, Northwest Territory. In July 2011, the Explorer Hotel was honored to host Prince William and Princess Kate during their Royal Tour of the North. The couple stayed in a suite on the top floor of the hotel and relaxed in our facilities after their busy local agenda.

Their Yellowknife itinerary consisted of a stop at Somba K'e Civic Plaza in downtown Yellowknife. The morning festivities included a street hockey game involving local youth, where the Duchess dropped the ceremonial first ball. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also set to watch aboriginal drumming and dancing, sports and gambling games on Tuesday afternoon, as well as a youth parliament session at the territorial legislature.
